VREs (virtual real estate) or MMTs (money making territories) are simply big huge portal sites that have pages whose sole purpose is to drive clicks your way.
These might be clicks via Adsense, affiliate links, PPC and the like.
No matter what anyone might say, it's not for true beginners (folks who don't know how to tweak webpage templates, ftp to site, etc.).
But if you're past that level, they can certainly be a viable proposition.
Thus, here are some tips from The Way of the Rich Hermit.
Many people think you should use individual domains for different topic niche portal pages like so:
http://www.insurancebooks.com
http://www.insuranceInNJ.com
http://www.insuranceForHomeOwners.com
Other folks think that using directories like
http://www.insurance.com/books
http://www.insurance.com/insuranceInNJ
http://www.insurance.com/ForHomeOwners
works just as fine (tools like PG Insider can create portals via either method).
Still other folks recommend using subdomains like so:
http://books.insurance.com
http://insuranceInNJ.insurance.com
http://ForHomeOwners.insurance.com
Thus, the question is: what are the pros and cons of standalone domains names, directories and subdomains?
I personally like using domains as they're visually quite standalone for me. But that's my personal preference.
The fact is, when you have web hosting space, you can put just about anything there online. For all intensive purposes, one domain with 3 money-page subdirectories takes up the same space as three domains populated only moneypages.
A benefit to domains are you can put individual domains on different IPs (thus spreading out your network). A domain from IP 11.22.33.44 looks like it's from a different network than one from 55.66.77.88.
A con of using domains is each domains costs money. Subdirectories and subdomains generally do not. Of course, you can always chalk up domain purchases to business expenses.
Although I know that directories and subdomains are easy to implement, I still personally tend to build in domains. Your mileage may vary.
DAPLs are tailor-made for portals. Sure, you can build portals with Adsense... but you're really missing out if you don't consider resources like eBay or Amazon.
Why?
Let's say that you're building a portal about digital cameras, and one of your keywords is
sony digital camera
You can incorporate into your template direct links that go to eBay's Sony Digital Cameras like so:
Now, for every keyword-focused page, you can have the same thing appear ... and include products that are completely focused to your site.
Do NOT underestimate the value of this. Everyone and their left earlobe flings up Google adsense all over the place. I'm here to tell you that eBay and other affiliate programs can work just as well in bringing you income..especially if you focus on consumer product portals.
Page generators and autobloggers make life much easier when going the MMT or VRE route.
My favorite is PG Insider for portal generation, and SEO BB for autoblogging.
If you want to master portal generation and VREs and MMTs and articles and other ways to make passive income, definitely consider a membership at Keyworld Avalanche. I've been a member there now for many months and find the environment plus the tool benefits one receives to be topnotch.
I hope you've found the above useful! Please feel free to share it with your friends.
