Niche marketing is simply "marketing inside a particular niche."
Wasn't that easy? :-)
The theory is that because you're focusing on a sector of marketing, you have a better chance at becoming an authority/making money (assuming you appeal to your audience).
Another use of niche marketing is to build whole entire resources around it, and then weave in targeted affiliate programs. Here's some tips on doing that.
Let's take as example for niche marketing the niche of...hmmmm....leesseeeee.....skiing.
The first thing you'd think of it is:
Skis
Right?
Well certainly you can do that. You can also break it down into
Skiing equipment (skis, apparel, those pole-thingees people use, etc.)
Skiing tips (how not to become one with trees)
Care of skis
Teaching children to ski
Vertical skiing
Grabbing some air
etc.
You can chuck it up into
Popular ski resorts
Popular skiiing areas
Popular competitions
Popular skiing champions
You can then chunk *that* up into:
Extreme sports
Atheletes health
But don't stop there! You can next:
You can include in your ski niche marketing things like:
Great ski vacations
Great ski packages
Van roof-racks (carry your skis!)
Snowmobiles (reach places where you can ski!)
Now, remember. For all the above, you can create individual sites that focus on that particular aspect of skiing... and then gently inter-relate them into one big huge vibrant money-making territory. I wrote quite a lot about that in The Way of The Rich Hermit.
Next,

Becoming a SME (subject matter expert) is extremely valuable, and can lead to excellent connections within the industry. I've been flown out to San Francisco because of my expertise in Internet recruiting, I've spoken at dozens of seminars and been a paid columnist because of the same, etc.
You could end up being paid to deliver seminars in the niche. That would be most marvelous indeed. Here's an example of a needs assessment analysis form I used back when I was active in Internet recruiting...feel free to adapt it to your requirements.
You can find lots of material on niche marketing online.

I hope you've found the above useful! Please feel free to share it with your friends.
