Today is Mother’s Day! Have you
been bombarded yet by all the hoopla
of “the perfect gift” - flowers, diamonds,
gift cards etc.? I remember driving by
Rt. 66 and seeing the huuuuuge billboards
emblazoned with a diamond heart - Show
Her She’s The Best Mom Ever!
But I’m here to tell you what *really*
rocks a mom’s heart. Yes indeedy, I
just awakened to the best Mother’s Day
gift ever!
Was it diamond jewelry? Nope! Flowers?
Yes, but not what you think! Chocolate?
Nope! A private Lear jet? (how did that
sneak in there?) Nope again!
No indeed, I awakened at 4:00am to continue
the polishing of my latest book, The Way of the
Rich Hermit. As I rolled gracefully from my
bedroom into my living room, I discovered…
A Miracle Had Taken Place!
The floor….was…..spotless!
And and and the room….was….swept up!
And and and the kids (get this, I hope you’re
sitting down) had … put AWAY… their toys!
But not only that! Tied to my external
hard drive were three Mommy Day balloons!
With fake flowers (which I much prefer, as
they last and last!)!
How much did my mommy’s day gifts cost?
Not a lot at all…but how much was it
valued? Beyond measure!
Can you do the same for your loved ones?
So often in today’s busy world, we get
caught up so much in work that we forget
“gifts” are far more than “things.” They’re
also expressions of love! And for an
expression of love, you don’t always need
to shoot for the big expensive thing.
It’s also easy to say, look what I’ve achieved
in my life today! But I’d also like to emphasize -
one of the reasons you are where you are might be
because of the guidance of your folks.
If that’s the case…what are you doing for your
mom today? Are you sending flowers and chocolates…
or are you also including a heart-felt letter that
really speaks from the inner you?
Moms are really special people. Back when I
was touring the country giving seminars, I had
one favorite line I always loved delivering.
It occured during my discussion about the powers
of networking, and went something like this:
No one (no one! except my mother, that is) knows
everything. But everyone knows something! Put
those somethings together, and you have a power
with which to reckon.
My mom is one of the most awesome folk on the
face of this planet; if I raise my kids half
as well as she raised me, I’ll be supermom.
* * * * *
Here’s to you, mom! You’ve been an inspiration
for me always to succeed. And that’s something
I hope I’m passing down to your grandkids.
* * * * *
What can you write to your mom or loved one
that really speaks to the heart? Do you remember
a key event that brought you success…a happy
moment shared…something that would bright her
day? If so, jot it down in a card and bring it
along! You’ll be surprised at how truly memorable
you’ll make your mom’s Mother’s Day….today.
