It's always darkest before the dawn...they say.
The light at the end of a tunnel might really be a train coming at you...they say.
You haven't failed 1000 times...you've succeeding at discovering 1000 different ways things won't work...they say.
While all the above is true (they say), it's a plain hard simple fact of life that...they're just words. True words, mind you...but unless you can embue them with the power of belief, they will have no affect on you whatsoever.
This morning, one of my kids was quite overwhelmed by all of her responsibilities. So many things had to be done, so many things had to be organized, so many things had to simply happen for her move to the next step! But she found herself paralyzed by her fears of future failure.
What did I, intrepid Mommy of Magnificence otherwise known as the All Powerful Mother Unit, do?
Have you ever seen origami creations? You know, those coolio paper sculptures you can create out of a singe sheet? I quickly made an origami cup (one of the only benefits I can remember from my 3rd grade class, I might add), cut the bottom so it would balance evenly upside, puffed it out and set it on the table.
Then I called my kid over and said, make a fist, scream a kiai (martial arts yell), and smash it flat. She looked at me quizzically, but did so. Again...and again...and again. My poor little origami cup was transformed into something that yearned to be made into confetti!
Then she looked at me, and I said, Look J...you didn't know it, but I put all of your fears into that cup. You've just crushed your fears away.
Ah, the smile that lit her face. By offering her a symbolic physical action, I was able to redirect her thoughts of fear to thoughts of accomplishment. And whoosh, back to work she went.
Neat how the human mind works, eh? So let me now ask you...what fears are holding you back from success? What worries are simply causing analysis-paralysis to your actions...and robbing you of the income you can earn?
Well? It's something upon which to think...and once thought, something upon which to act. Here's an instruction on how to make an origami cup.
And if you'd like to learn how to make other origami, check out these cool things currently available!
